The Preservation Pencil was first available in 1989 and has proved to be one of the most successful conservation tools. The system includes the Pencil, the ultrasonic humidifier, three different nozzles, attachments and 1.6 m hose. The way that it works is: cold mist produced by the ultrasonic humidifier is heated by dialing into the control unit the desired temperature, which then remains at a constant precise level with a digital display of the actual temperature. It provides fine delicate jet of moisture or dry air from ambient to 100oC (combining the Pencil and the humidifier) and is used for removing glues, resins, old labels, separating paper layers, activating enzymes and adhesives, relaxing and cleaning. The system also works as a hot air blower, using only the Preservation Pencil. The dry air facility is especially useful for low temperature adhesives such as Beva 371 used in oil painting conservation. The ultrasonic humidifier kit (without using the Pencil) provides a fine cold mist, ideal for relaxing without wetting on parchment, leather, paper, textiles. |
