ATAGOL SODIC

Sodic Atagol is a preservative based on sodic parachlorometacresol, soluble in water. Easy to use, with a considerable preventive activity against bacteria and fungi and a good biodegradability.

Sodic Atagol has proved to be the ideal preservative for lining paste glues, animal gelatines, casein solutions and adhesives based on natural gums like gum arabic. The low concentration necessary for its effect does not compromise the adhesiveness characteristics of the compounds to which it is added.

Sodic Atagol, also called parachlorometacresol, is the sodium salt of 4-chloro-3-methylphenol.

Numerous biologic tests conducted in the laboratory have shown the efficiency of Sodic Atagol in respect to many fungal species (such as Penicillium glaucum, Aspergillus niger Chaetomium globosum), and also to many in bacterial strains (Staphilococcus aureus, Bacterium subtilis, Escherichia coli, Bacterium punctatum, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, …).

DOSAGE

The low concentration of Sodic Atagol necessary to carry out the effect (0.2% in weight of the glue’s total quantity) is such that the adhesive characteristics of the compounds to which it is added are not compromised, a problem which instead arises with quaternary ammonium salts (Preventol RI 80, Desogen). For Casein solutions it is necessary to raise the concentration to 2%.
